CHANGI BEACH ON FRIDAY THE 13TH DURING HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL~

Sounds scary enough ? Well , how dirty the beach was even MORE SCARY! >.<
Our Group Reflections~
We think that we should not dirty the beach with our  litters  .

1. The litters will spoil the cleaniness of the beach thus giving a bad impression on tourists .
2. If there are sharp objects being thrown in the beach and sea , there will be people and marine animals being hurt and injured .
3. Litters such as Plastic bags contains petroleum thus is harmful . About 100,000 animals such as dolphins, turtles whales, penguins are killed every year due to plastic bags. Many animals ingest plastic bags, mistaking them for food, and therefore die. Others become entangled in plastic bags and drown.
4. Fishing line, netting, rope, bait box packaging bands and so on trap and strangle animals. Large marine animals such as seals and dolphins can starve to death when muzzled by plastic litter
5. Seabirds eat polystyrene balls and plastic buoys, after confusing them with fish eggs and crustaceans.

If sea creatures are being killed with our inconvenience and selfish thinking , there will be lesser sea creatures and one day , all sea creatures will be wiped out . By then , how will human beings survive ? So , WE SHOULD PROTECT THE BEACH! :D Our class 106 went to Changi Beach on 13 August to pick litters . There were MANY rubbish and the beach was VERY dirty .

Q1) Why are scientists worried about the oil spill reaching the marshes ?



Ans: It is because the cord-grass marshes are nurseries of animals like baby shrimps, tortoises and lots more . Due to the oil spill , it could bring sensitive young animals in contact with toxic oil or cause their parents to plunge into oily waters looking for food for their young . The toxic oil is poisonous and could kill lifes of innocent marine creatures . If marshes die , it could remove a natural barrier that takes the punch out of waves before they hit Louisiana's fast-eroding coast.



Q2) Explain how some of the marine and wildlife has been affected by the oil spill.



Ans: Oil is damaging for birds because it coats their feathers, destroying the natural chemistry that keeps them buoyant, warm and able to fly. When the birds try to remove the oil , they can swallow it and get poisoned. Scientists said that among other wildlife, some fish would swim to oil-free places. The situation is worse for dolphins as they can inhales fumes from the oil when they come up to the surface of the sea to breathe twice a minute.



Q3) Suggest which industries may be affected by the oil spill and explain how.



Ans: I think that the Seafood industries will be affected by the oil spill. It is because almost all of the marine creatures like fishes, abalones, crabs and lots more, cannot be consumed as the oil is poisonous and toxic. If we cannot consume it, the Seafood industries' business will be badly affected.



Q4) Put yourself in the position of the marine and wildlife that have been affected. How would you feel?



Ans: I will feel angry as the oil spill wiped out lots and lots of innocent lifes of the marine and wildlife. Humans are careless and they must clear this oily mess ASAP! If not , more lifes will be killed by the oil spill !



Q5) What do you think your role is in conversing the environment ?



Ans: I think my role is to do the 3Rs in my daily life in order to save and help the environment to be better ! :)

I feel sad about the oil spill as the marine creatures may die due to oil spills. Innocent lifes are killed just because of HUMANS . All the Marine creatures are suffering due to the oil spill and the oil is toxic and poisonous . Humans must clean this oily mess ASAP ! If not , more lifes will be killed ! :( :( :(

Marine animals will die, People must use lot's of money and manpower to clear the oil. So, NO OIL SPILLING (:

I felt sad for the sea animals as they are polluting the sea and the animals living there might die.. :'(

The oil can poison the animal or make them sick. This may be a threaten to the sea creatures lifes. Many sea creature will then be killed.

Its a sad thing as the birds, sharks, dolphins, tortoises, may die.. :) Their poor babies may die too. Dolphins will inhale the fumes from the oil. Birds can get poisoned while removing oil from their bodies. :D :D :D

I feel very sad for the marine animals and I pity them. ): They are soooooo innocent , yet the humans killed them because of their inconsideration. They are living things, just like us , and we shouldn't kill them with our oil spill. We should respect them, Instead of pouring our oil spill into the sea, we can use the oil on other uses.
